Our next show is the Oxford Mineral Show in Kidlington, Oxford on Sunday 7th March. We will have some of the Jim Goulding Collection available.
The Romford Show: this is always a small friendly show with a range of dealers and club members exhibiting. This year saw a significant number of fossil dealers scattered through the two halls but as always there was a good range of mineral specimens to be seen with many bargains to be had. I picked up a number of old time British specimens including an Egremont calcite and a Scottish vanadinite. Roland Thomas was selling a wide range of British and world fluorite specimens at considerably reduced prices. I noticed an excellent Russian tourmaline on matrix on another dealer's stand which sold during the morning. Other dealer's present included Dave Whipp of Harlequin minerals, whose stand was as colourful as ever. Tony Brooks of Earth's Wonders had an impressive display of cavansite amongst his world wide specimens, and Gary Atkinson of Greenside Minerals had an attractive display of Chinese and Indian pieces.
Numbers of visitors were significantly up on last year and there was quite a buzz first thing. It was a good omen - specimens, especially at the top end of the price range, were selling, and people seemed more confident despite the prospect of a general election. We are all looking forward to the Oxford Show on Sunday 7th March.
